I strongly advise against travelling to Gambia. I crossed Gambia on my way from Dakar to Cassamance and it is not only very gay hostile but full of criminal hustlers. I met several tourists who have been robbed even from their hotel room in Gambia. Kafountine in Cassamance / Southern Senegal has a relaxed atmosphere but also here you have to avoid immigrants from Gambia.

Ethiopia for some conjures up thoughts of famine, civil war, unstable neighbours, exotic people in the south. My arrival at 3.50 in the morning, greeted with a kind smile from the immigration/passport man and the hotel shuttle from my hotel kindness as well as the other people I met in Ethiopia made me feel it is so EASY to love the people and the country. People are very kind and seem always willing to help. They also seem religiously harmonious and accepting of others as churches are many times located next to a mesjid ( mosque). There are so many languages spoken besides Amharek.
Amharic music is great and has a haunting yet up beat sound.
Ethiopian food is great when it is spicy and with lots of vegetables, "ives" cottage cheese, banana trunk bread, dried meat (wanta)- all accompanied with enjera.
I had a short but sweet visit which was a wonderful introduction for me and it left me wanting to visit and experience more of this beautiful country and culture. I wish I could have an opportunity to return again soon!

Back from Ghana I recommand Ezilebay ( http://ezilebay.com/ ).A place away from any hussle, good food, and a calm bay protected by rock. The whole bay belongs to the guesthouse and next village is 15 min.walk.They are still waiting to be connected with electricity but kerosin lamps and a generator at the restaurant do it for now.

Am thinking of going to Cape Town either late this year or very early next; also wish to visit Ghana and/or Nigeria as ALL the men I see from there are SO handsome; is it possible to go to these countries for some local colour <g>?  My favourite colour is BLK!  Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated!  As ever, D

I plan to travel to Uganda early next year - on business. I expect to stay three weeks and at this point in time I will be staying in Kampala - however, that has not been firmly decided. Other than the extreme anti-homosexual attitudes, can anyone share any experiences with me?
Comment by Steve on July 26, 2010 at 16:59
I will be from 27th November until beginning January in South Africa and added some links. I booked David's Guest House in Cape town and Durban View Guest house in Durban, both gay-owned.
