Any yachities heading for Sydney for Mardi Gras might be interested to know that there's a Mardi Gras Regatta run by the local gay sailing group that takes place on 26th Feb 2011 in Sydney Harbour. Not too serious and no spinnakers - social dinner in the evening. See ASCC.org.au

Shane and Craig - that's exactly the kind of stuff I'm looking for, so thank you, especially about the flights to AKL. Yeah, my friend in QLD is really excited about Oprah being in town. Honestly I'm not a fan but I'll make sure to watch her special when it airs (and I just read that Hugh got hurt a bit while taping). Cheers!

Hi Eugene - as you seem to have really limited time in Australia, unless you have a reason for spending 5 days in Brisbane like visiting a friend or exploring the Gold Coast and hinterland from there, we would suggest a day or two less in Brisbane and add an extra day to Sydney & Melbourne as there are much bigger places with lots more to see and do. Also flights from Sydney or melbourne direct to Auckland may be a lot cheaper than from Brisbane - you may want to look at this and depending on the cost, consider changing the order in which you do things. Oprah Winfrey has just filmed 4 shows here which will air in the USA in January, you may care to watch those for some hints of travel in Australia as well
