We're planning to sail the coast of Sicily in summer 2012. Looking forward to hearing about great beaches and gay destinations.

If you have only four days and providing that you want to spend them all in Sicily, my advice is that you go to Palermo and stay there: there is enough art and architecture to take you occupied for your whole 40 days, let alone four...
If you really want to move around, as an alternative you can stay in Catania and move from there, taking a different excursion each day. You will miss the far west, but hey, this is a big island: can you drive 4 hours to go and 4 hours to come back each day?

I agree we really need a month to get a feel of the locale...but this RTW B-day trip is going to be only for 40 days and we want to spend at least 4 days in Italy- and Sicily sounds really nice and relaxing.
