Larry, check out Time Out NY magazine (the paper version and/or the website).  I have not particularly liked their food recommendations, but it's a handy source of info on theaters, galleries, movies, museums, etc.

Will be visiting NYC for the first time from May 25-31. I will be on the south side of Central Park. Anything going on around there that would interest me guys?

Hello folks,

I am a grad student from Maryland and planning to visit NYC next week (06.15-18). I was wondering if anyone here could kindly offer me a short stay in NYC for 2-3 nights. A discreet, decent and respectful person here and expect the same. We could hang, chill and take it from there.

Cheers,

Julian

Hello everyone, we will be visiting NYC from June 23 - 30th and hoping to find a reasonable place to stay. We are looking at B&B's and VRBO's, but not sure the best places to stay to be close to clubs and bars. Any advice on what's reasonable and recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks...Kevin & Randy

Thanks John...of course it makes perfect sense not to try to go back in time, especially in a place like New York City.  I will be staying in midtown and was looking for casual up-scale restaurant with an "american-contemporary" menu.  I know there are tons of these restaurants in Manhattan.  What I liked about the other place was the clientele....pretty much gay, a mix of ages and the atmosphere...laid-back but refined.  In other words, the music was not too loud and the atmosphere relaxed, not hyper.  I know I may be showing my age but I just can't with those trendy restaurants (like Elmo on 7th Avenue) where you cannot hear yourself think.  Anyway, it was just a thought...I am sure I will find someplace interesting after visiting the galleries and museums.

Re: "Does anyone remember the Townhouse Restaurant (not the bar) on E. 58th Street?  I know the restaurant closed a few years ago...but I liked the atmosphere in that place."

I recall the restaurant, just down the block from the current piano bar, but never went in. I called a friend who probably had eaten there, but he's too burnt-out to recall any details about the place. Instead of trying to track down a clone of a shuttered establishment, if you give specifics about what you liked about the atmosphere, menu, clientele, etc., maybe someone can come up with a few suggestions.
