Gay Men's Health is Scotland’s charity for gay men. Our work involves and empowers gay and bisexual men to promote the health and well-being of all men who have sex with men. This includes men living with or affected by HIV.
We currently have office bases in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Our aim is to:
•Prevent further transmission of HIV
•Challenge stigma and discrimination around living with HIV
•Promote the sexual health of all gay and bisexual men
•Promote the mental and emotional health of all gay and bisexual men
•Promote the physical health of all gay and bisexual men
•Promote the social health of all gay and bisexual men
Gay Men’s Health currently comprises four main projects, from which a range of services and opportunities are provided, including:
•free, confidential and professional counselling
•information and advice on safer sex
•leaflets, posters and campaigns
•remote reporting of crimes to the police on your behalf
•peer education on the gay scene and internet
•information and support around HIV testing
•free condoms and lubricant for gay and bisexual men
•groupwork for gay and bisexual men living with HIV
•research on health-related issues
•challenging HIV stigma and discrimination
•volunteering opportunities
•training for professionals
•information on Sexually Transmitted Infections
•groups for gay and bi men aged 40+
•help with stopping smoking
•awareness raising events
Each of these services, plus many others that we provide forms an integral and essential part of the holistic approach that the agency takes. Gay Men's Health believes strongly in a process of peer education, which simply means that gay and bisexual men and their friends are the best-placed people to educate each other.
