I think the trip by car is a bit less than 5 hours. I took a bus last June but did not time it. Pretty drive daytime, lots to see. Night can be scary as sooooo dark. TDay in SF features many places for the turkey dinner. I am going with friends to San Sebastian in the S Madre, as we have past 2 years. Owner of Hacienda Jalisco hosts a bash for maybe 40-50 people on their land. Partial potluck where you bring one dish but Joe pit-roasts turkeys and the chef makes huge bowls of the accompaniments. Great fun and mariachi, too. Some bars may have fiestas. I do not drink so do not partake. Prefer being with amigos. Starting to pick up here and we await the PanAmer Games 10/16, big deal for PV.

Andrew Schwartz said… Hi Terry! Finally, I got a chance to return and hopefully I'll be able to make some updates to my page.
True, 60+ is a bit ambiguous. lol...I turned 60 last October 6 and am still trying to get used to this era in my life. Big changes this past year for example. I retired! It's a whole new life in a way that I'm just beginning to discover. Ah, Portland...! In the mid-80s I had to attend a conference in your wonderful city. It was springtime and a few of us went on a tour of all the gorgeous estates with their robust gardens...simiply beautiful! Then, of course, I did drive up Mount Hood dressed as any gay New Yorker would dress for such in occasion; Ralph Lauren shorts, shirts, and the requisite army boots! It was an absolutely gorgeous day as we began our abscent and paid no heedance to the flashing signs suggesting everyone stop and put chains on their tires!! Ah! What a blizzard it was!!! How we ever made it to the lodge, I don't remember. We arrived there, but trying to find the entrance was another story. finally we did, all of our body parts <even the fun ones> were frozen. And all I remember was hearing someone yell from across the room, "The New Yorkers have finally entered the building!" There are so many other fond memories of Portland...simply put, that was not my last trip to your city! I've returned many times since.
