"GEE AM I LUCKY, BOY AM I LUCKY, I AM A LUCKY GUY"
I fell in love with Donna McKechnie one snowy winter night in 1968 when I saw her in "Promises, Promises" but it was in "a Chorus Line" with her commanding the stage in the solo "Music and the Mirror" for 8+ minutes singing, dancing and acting as Cassie that I fell IN LOVE with her. On Thursday, while reading…

TAPS42--GASTROPUB REVIEW
Going along with the latest fad Taps 42 is a new gastropub featuring beer on tap--yes, here there are 42--$11 burgers, $9 grilled cheese sandwich, basically over-priced food but the food isn't why you come here . There are TVs all around but these are a lot smaller than in other places. There is a large outdoor…

"TEH IRON LADY"--A MOVIE REVIEW
Meryl Streep is, in all probability, the most awarded, if not financially rewarded, actresses of the past few generations. She is called 'the best actress of several generations' and holds the record for the most Oscar nominations and received her 19th for "The Iron Lady". She is acclaimed all over the world and,…

USA:- If you're gay and lose your cellphone, don't sit down
Viewed from afar, America's religious fundamentalist homophobes often seem ridiculous. And that could hardly be more true in the case of anti-gay pastor Patrick Wooden, who's been doing the rounds of sympathetic talkshows this week with a detailed and graphic description of how gay men supposedly lose muscle tone in their nether regions through doing things he doesn't think are acceptable.
Though you and I may listen and laugh, it's worth remembering that…

SMARTER? FEARFUL? TRUSTING? STUPID? ALL THE ABOVE?
Though it is not usually my frame of mind I am very down on myself for something I did yesterday. I am mad at myself for going against my instincts and yet, at the same time, I am questioning what I did because it involved trusting another person. I have always trusted people, including strangers, until they showed they weren't trustworthy. I know it is not a smart thing to do but over my 76 years I have had more positive results doing that than negative and I have very seldom regretted…

CELEBRATING LEAP YEAR BIRTHDAY PARTIES--PART 4
It was 1988 and I was celebrating my thirteenth Leap Year birthday. I was thinking of having a bar mitzvah but I wasn't ready to go through the Hebrew lessons again so instead I had a party at The Golden Spike restaurant which had a fantastic buffet including a really tasty carrot cake--and is no longer in business.
I have a whole album of pictures from that evening. In addition I do have my diary notes and a copy of my master charge credit card receipt and The Golden Spike receipt…

Possibility
An old song, Possibility by Intoxicated, came back to tickle my memory.. Ahhh.. the shiver of a young crush, and the things we would do...
-------------------
The year was young and there was no such thing as Axc*st, Frida*, Facebook and more... oh yes, we had mric, where chatters were more face-less or fake than today. I was there at Datuk Koyah Road, having supper with my friends - something I did not really do much. I was very much a homely guy, and still is. But that late…

DO IT NOW--DON'T HAVE REGRETS
Sue worked as an accountant at the 1 Fifth Avenue restaurant in Greenwich Village right off the Park. We had been friends even since she walked into in Weight Watchers class on East 72nd street. From the first day she talked about waiting for retirement so she could get her Social Security and using the money she saved open a small antique shop on Third Avenue. The day she got her first check she called me--I was living in Memphis by then--and told me she had found just the right place and…

CELEBRATING LEAP YEAR BIRTHDAYS--PART 3
There is something about waiting 3, what seems very long, years to celebrate a birthday but I have always done that and looked forward to my Leap Year celebration. Sometimes the party was elaborate, like the one I spoke of in the last blog, while other times they were modest and most depended on…
