A legal challenge filed by a couple in Reims in September has wound its way through the system, and this week a superior court - the Court of Cassation - agreed that gay marriage "is today the subject of a broad debate within society, notably because of the evolution of morals and the recognition of same-sex marriages by the laws of several foreign countries".

Paris Foot Gay were due to play Créteil Bébel in a match on Sunday, as part of a local championship organised by the Commission Football Loisirs (CFL). The day before, Créteil Bébel, which is a team made up of practicing Muslims, sent a note explaining they couldn't go ahead with the match on grounds of principle.
