Mexico City's Mayor, Marcelo Ebrard, says he'll vigorously defend the law which will legalise gay marriage as of March this year. Mexico City's councillors voted in favour of same-sex marriage in December 2009, making it the first such law passed anywhere in Latin America.
His statement comes after the country's Attorney General lodged an appeal to the Supreme Court earlier this week claiming that the move was "anti-constitutional," along with adoption by gay couples, which was also approved by the city's rulers.
