There's been a worrying increase in HIV infection among men who have sex with men in Thailand, and there's concern about the lack of awareness and knowledge about prevention amongst the population aged 18-24.
"Love Audition" is an online series which is aimed at encouraging men to make better choices, which has been shown on a popular satellite channel, and is also available on YouTube. Producer Vitaya Saeng-aroon is convinced that - though the series is popular because of its dramatic content - its message is getting across.
"There has been so little information in the mainstream media about HIV prevention that is specifically tailored at this high-risk group....The media has been so reluctant to talk about actual things in a way that both educates and engages audiences. Viewers have enjoyed it, meaning they could have absorbed our key messages at the right moment. We aim for behavioural change".
A second series, funded through a UN scheme, is going to focus on drug abuse. More in the Bangkok Post.
