places to go, people to meet
Allan Horsfall, pioneer in the UK LGBT equality campaign, has died aged 84.
As honorary Life President of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality, Allan was active in campaigning for over 50 years and had only recently stopped.
Allan founded the Manchester-based North-West Homosexual Law Reform committee in 1964, which was Britain’s first grassroots, gay-led campaign organisation. It grew into a national body in 1969, as the Committee for Homosexual Equality and was renamed again in 1971 as the Campaign for Homosexual Equality.
Under Allan’s presidency in the 1970s and 80s, the CHE grew to be the largest ever mass membership LGBT rights organisation in the UK. pinkpaper
